DOG BITES & ATTACKS

Dog bites and attacks can cause someone to suffer from very serious injuries. In addition to the physical injuries that a dog attack can cause, you can also suffer from extreme emotional trauma from the terror of the attack. Medical treatment is often necessary after a dog attack and there are also some situations in which the victim will need to have surgery.

The Illinois Animal Control Act requires that if a dog has injured someone, the dog owner is responsible for paying the medical expenses for the victim, provided that the victim has proven that:

• The victim did not provoke the dog in attacking them
  
• The defendant is the owner of the dog or is responsible for the dog
  
• The victim was legally allowed to be in the place where they were attacked
